The Associate of Arts degree in Human Services-Substance Abuse will provide students with principles, knowledge, and skills required to begin a career in the field of human services or substance abuse. Students wishing to transfer to a baccalaureate granting institution and pursue a degree in Human Services or Substance Abuse are strongly encouraged to check with their advisor and coordinate their course work at San Juan College with the requirements of the transfer institution. In general, however, it is suggested that students complete the New Mexico Transfer Module as outlined below. Note: Student must earn a grade of ‘C’ or higher in all courses to obtain a Human Services-Substance Abuse A.A. degree.

SJC First Year Experience Requirement: 3 Credits
General Education Requirements: 31 credits
Social/Behavioral Science:
Program Core Requirements: 21-22 Credits
Approved Substance Abuse Track Electives
Students will select three 3-credit courses from the approved Substance Abuse Track Electives list. Approved Social/Behavioral Science Electives
Students will select two 3-credit courses from the approved Social/Behavioral Science Electives list. Electives: 1-5 credits
Take 1-5 credits to meet program total of 60 credits. Courses must be numbered 110 or higher. It is recommended that students take courses in Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, or Anthropology. TOTAL DEGREE REQUIREMENTS: 60-64 credits
