Creative Writing Certificate

This certificate is designed for students who are committed to their writing and is ideal for those who are planning to apply to a B.A. or M.F.A. writing program in the future or for those who simply wish to develop a portfolio of writing. Note: Student must earn a ‘C’ or higher in all certificate coursework.

Program Core Requirements: 6 Credits
Digital Storytelling course (ENGL 1160) will be a Program Core requirement, along with Introduction to Creative Writing (ENGL 2310). Literature Courses: 6 Credits
Choose 6 credits from the following: Creative Writing Courses: 9 Credits
Choose 9 credits from the following: Capstone: 3 Credits
This capstone course will utilize the college’s rubrics to assess the general education competency (writing, oral communication, information technology, critical thinking, scientific and mathematical reasoning) using student artifacts. A portfolio reflecting best practices will be submitted to a faculty committee for review and evaluation. This course must be completed during the student’s last semester prior to graduation.

Program Core Courses- 6 credit hours Literature Courses- 6 credit hours Creative Writing Courses- 9 credit hours Capstone- 3 credit hours Suggested Course Sequence for Full-Time Students:
Students have some flexibility in how they approach the sequence with Literature courses being offered in both Fall and Spring Semesters, and with being able to take Program Core courses and Creative Writing courses in any order (except ENGL 2999- Capstone). |
