EDUC-260 Diagnostic Teaching of Reading 3 cr. Required for Elementary/option for Special Education. Theoretical and practical reading practices and reading recovery practices for grades K-8 will be addressed, as well as the reading and writing processes for early emergent literacy development. The course will cover diagnostic reading practices, phonemic awareness, vocabulary development, phonics, fluency and reading comprehension. Assessment practices of reading levels, skills, and competencies will be explored. Emphasis will be placed on designing literacy rich environments within elementary classrooms. Corequisites: EDUC 240 , EDUC 250 . Offered: Fall, Summer - Faculty Permission Required
