Chemistry has a variety of specializations and career paths, therefore students should consult with a Chemistry Department Advisor before their second semester in order to better tailor their program of study to their needs.

General Education Requirements


Mathematics: 4-15 credits


Students’ Accuplacer score for Mathematics will determine their placement in the Math sequence, beginning with MATH-115 Intermediate Algebra-Applications  through MATH-188 Calculus I . Students who place at the beginning of the Math sequence will need to complete 11 additional credit hours of coursework to complete the degree requirements.

Laboratory Science: 8-12 credits


Students must have completed CHEM-110 with a C or better or completed high school chemistry with a grade of B or better within the last 4 years as a pre-requisite to CHEM-111.

Social and Behavioral Science: 6-9 credits


See General Education Requirements for Associate of Science Degrees . (minimum of 6 credits, maximum of 9)  Students must have 15 credits total between the Social/Behavioral Science area and Humanities/Fine Arts areas.

Humanities and Fine Arts: 6-9 credits


See General Education Requirements for Associate of Science Degrees .  (minimum of 6 credits, maximum of 9)  Students must have 15 credits total between the Social/Behavioral Science area and Humanities/Fine Arts areas.

Total General Education Requirements: 36-51


Total Core Requirements: 25 credits


Total Credits: 61-76

*Courses must be completed with a “C” or higher to count toward the degree.
