The Associate of Arts Degree in Police Science is intended for those students who are already employed by a local law enforcement agency or those who are pursuing a degree as open enrollment students. For those who are seeking the degree as open enrollment students, acceptance into the Academy sponsored by the San Juan County Criminal Justice Training Authority is required. Through the partnership of the Criminal Justice Training Authority, San Juan College, Highlands University, and University of New Mexico, law enforcement officers may continue on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Note: A student must earn a grade of C or higher in all courses required for the program in order to receive a degree or certificate.

General Education Courses


Social/Behavioral Science: Select 6-9 credits


Minimum of 6 credits. Must have 15 credits total between this area and Humanities and Fine Arts.

Humanities/Fine Arts: Select 6-9 credits


Minimum of 6 credits. Must have 15 credits total between this area and Social/Behavioral Science.

Total General Education Requirements: 35


Total Credits: 67
