The Geographic Information Systems Technology (GIST) degree and certificate programs at San Juan College offer students a solid education to pursue a career in the rapidly growing field of geospatial sciences or to develop new skills for their current profession.

Virtually every sector and government is using geographic information to make more informed decisions based on better geographic knowledge. Job opportunities in the geospatial sciences exist locally in San Juan County, as well as in the State of New Mexico, and nationally and internationally.

Geospatial science includes geographic information systems (GIS), the global positioning system (GPS), and the remote sensing of satellite and aerial imagery among other mapping technologies. Together these tools are used to collect, manage, and analyze geographic information and allow us to make better decisions about our world.
