The Cosmetology program is designed to meet the standards established by the New Mexico State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists. The program covers coursework in the theory and lab in salon business and retail sales, in addition to college general education courses. The program meets the minimum of 1,600 clock hours required by the State Board.
After successfully completing the program, students are qualified to take the New Mexico Board of Cosmetology licensure examination. Licensing and certification for immediate employment in the field are obtained by passing this exam.
Students entering this program are required to test into RDNG 113 and ENGL 111 on the Accuplacer test. This is a selective admission program that admits students in the fall and spring semesters.
Note: A student must earn a grade of C or higher in all courses required for the program in order to receive a degree or certificate.
