				The Associate of Science degree in Chemistry will provide students with principles, knowledge, and skills required to begin a career in the fields requiring chemistry. Students will take courses that will introduce the many specialties within the field of chemistry.  Students wishing to transfer to a baccalaureate granting institution and pursue a degree in Chemistry are strongly encouraged to check with their advisor and coordinate their course work at San Juan College with the requirements of the transfer institution.   Note:  A student must earn a grade of ‘C’ or higher in all courses to obtain a Chemistry A.S. degree. |  
													| SJC First Year Experience Requirement: 3 Credits
Program Proficiencies and/or Prerequisites:
 Students must have completed CHEM-1120  with a ‘C’ or better or completed high school chemistry with a grade of ‘B’ or better within the last 4 years as a pre-requisite to CHEM-1215 .General Education Requirements: 34 Credits
Social/Behavioral Science, Humanities, & Fine Arts:
Program Core Requirements: 26 Credits
Program Core Electives: 5 Credits
 Applied to Program Core Requirements: Students can apply additional courses in Science, Math, and Engineering for the Chemistry Degree according to their career interests.  Students are encouraged to take a CHEM-299 Special Topics: Chemistry Research course.  Additional higher level math courses such as Calculus 3, or Differential Equations; or college level coursework in Biology, Geology, Engineering, or Computer Programming are acceptable.  Meet with a chemistry faculty advisor to determine acceptable courses or to set up a research course.TOTAL DEGREE REQUIREMENTS: 60-63 Credits
