Engineering, A.S.

The Associate of Science degree in General Engineering is intended to prepare students for transfer to a four-year baccalaureate granting institution.  Those wishing to transfer to a baccalaureate granting institution and pursue a degree program are strongly encouraged to check with their advisor and carefully coordinate their coursework at San Juan College with the requirements of the transfer institution.

Read the current catalog of your intended transfer degree institution to take the most appropriate courses for each engineering specialty.  Not all courses in the General Engineering A.S. will transfer to some schools, or in some specialties.  For detailed information on the most common transfer universities visit:  NM Tech go to www.nmt.edu, NMSU www.nmsu.edu, UNM www.unm.edu, and Fort Lewis www.fortlewis.edu.

Note:  Student must earn a grade of ‘C’ or higher in all courses to obtain an Engineering A.S. degree.

SJC First Year Experience Requirement: 3 credits


Program Proficiencies and/or Prerequisites: 8 credits


Student records and experience will determine placement in the math sequence, beginning with MATH-095  Pre-Algebra through MATH-1510  Calculus I.  Students who place at the beginning of the math sequence will need to complete 11 additional credit hours of math courses to complete the degree requirements.

High school physics or PHYS-1115  Survey of Physics is required to take PHYS-1310  Calculus-based Physics I.  Students without high school physics credit will need to take 3 additional credit hours in physics.

General Education Requirements: 31 credits

TOTAL DEGREE REQUIREMENTS: 76-79 credits
