San Juan College offers phlebotomy courses that prepare the student for employment as a phlebotomist in a variety of settings including hospitals and clinics. The classes emphasize theory and skills of phlebotomy, including anatomy and physiology, safety, and specimen collection and processing. Proper specimen collection and handling is key in providing quality analyses. These courses are offered through the Medical Laboratory Technician Program.
Certification
Students who successfully complete MLTS 160 and MLTS 161 will be eligible to take the national certification examination.
Location
MLTS 160 and portions of MLTS 161 are taught at San Juan College main campus. Practicum assignments in MLTS 161 require travel to locations off campus to clinical affiliates throughout the Four Corners area.
Admission Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required for admission to the program.
- Students admitted must be at least 18 years of age.
- Complete a background check, drug screen, and all health requirements required by the clinical affiliates prior to start of MLTS 161 .
The College reserves the right to limit enrollment because of space or budget restrictions, establish selective admission requirements, and give preference to residents of the Four Corners area.
