Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Perform haircutting, hairstyling, chemical texturizing, and hair coloring services using current industry standards.
- Apply infection control, sanitation, and safety procedures in accordance with state board regulations.
- Perform skincare, basic facial treatments, makeup application, and hair removal services.
- Demonstrate manicuring and pedicuring techniques, including artificial nail enhancements.
- Conduct professional client consultations, analyze hair/skin/nail conditions, and recommend appropriate services and products.
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethics, communication skills, and customer service in a salon environment.
- Apply fundamental business practices including retailing, salon management principles, and career readiness skills.
- Successfully complete a minimum 1600 clock hours to meet eligibility requirements for the state cosmetology licensing examination.
- Includes required General Education (such as English, Math, and other approved core courses).
The Cosmetology A.A.S. covers the courses that discuss orientation, general sciences, hair care, skin care, nail care and business skills that are included in the Cosmetology industry. Places importance on concepts that will help you reach your goals, sharpening technical and personal skills and how to build a clientele. Provides information that will enhance your understanding of the material in the text and provides activities and exercises prevalent in Cosmetology. Provides critical safety elements and informs of critical regulated procedures for the state of New Mexico. Offers step by step procedures that are clear and concise and assessment tools and lesson plans to get the student involved.
