Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- FAA Compliance and Safety: Understand and adhere to current FAA regulations, including registration, certification, and operating rules for commercial sUAS operations, ensuring safety and compliance in all flight activities.
- Practical Flight Experience and Software Proficiency: Acquire hands-on experience in both manual and automated flight control, including the use of software interfaces like RealityScan and Open Drone Map, to enhance mission outcomes and data processing capabilities.
- Data Acquisition and Analysis: Gain experience with the principles and practices of UAS mapping, photogrammetry, and data analysis, including the use of software applications for post-processing and creating deliverables such as 3D products.
- Technical Systems and Maintenance: Gain an understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems used in UAS, including their theory, practice, and maintenance, to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
- Flight Planning and Execution: Develop the skills to plan, prepare, and execute UAS missions effectively, including mission planning, data gathering, and post-processing techniques, while managing constraints and environmental factors.
The Small Unmanned Aerial Systems certificate and degree at San Juan College offer students the education and skills to qualify for employment positions as SUAS pilots, operators, observers, sensor operators, or operations administrators among other positions involving SUAS usage. Experiential learning offered in this program allows students to problem solve and spend valuable time operating and maintaining SUAS’s.
