Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Utilize appropriate veterinary medical terminology and demonstrate effective communication with veterinary staff and clients in both written and verbal forms.
- Apply ethical standards, confidentiality practices, and professional behavior consistent with the veterinary healthcare environment.
- Identify and apply relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing veterinary hospitals, including OSHA, DEA, AVMA, and state veterinary boards.
- Explore business law concepts of social responsibility, ethical application of the law, and the relationship between ethics and the law.
- Design and implement client service protocols and communication strategies to improve client satisfaction, loyalty, and patient outcomes.
- Distinguish and describe the role of supervision in an organization and discuss effective processes in the selection of employees, training employees, and conducting performance appraisals.
- Create and interpret financial statements, develop budgets, and apply financial controls to support the economic sustainability and growth of a veterinary practice.
The Veterinary Practice Management certificate program is specifically designed to give students the knowledge and skills to function as a practice manager in a veterinary clinic or hospital, and to prepare them to take and successfully complete the requirements to become a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) through the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA).
