Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Perform precision haircuts including tapers, fades, razor cutting, and shear-over-comb techniques.
- Perform straight-razor shaves and beard/mustache design safely and professionally.
- Apply chemical services permitted within barbering scope of practice.
- Demonstrate proper sanitation, disinfection, and infection control procedures.
- Conduct professional client consultations and provide excellent customer service.
- Demonstrate knowledge of scalp treatments and basic skincare services within barbering practice.
- Apply fundamental business practices, state laws, and professional ethics.
- Complete 1200 clock hours minimum to meet eligibility requirements for the state barber licensing examination.
- Includes required General Education (such as English, Math, and other approved core courses).
The Barber Associate of Applied Science degree will provide students with principles, knowledge, and skills required to begin a career in barbering. For those already employed, the program provides courses and/or programs to upgrade or allow occupational advancement. Students entering this program are required to complete appropriate basic skills classes as determined by course placements. This is a selective program that admits students in the fall and spring semesters.
