Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Students will demonstrate correct specimen collection and processing.
- Students will exhibit time management and ability to logically sequence tasks.

- Student will apply correct documentation skills and perform clerical tasks required for accurate record keeping.
- Students will integrate principles of safety, infection control, and identify appropriate regulatory agencies.

San Juan College offers phlebotomy courses that prepare the student for employment as a phlebotomist in a variety of settings including hospitals and clinics. The classes emphasize theory and skills of phlebotomy, including anatomy and physiology, safety, and specimen collection and processing. Proper specimen collection and handling is key in providing quality analyses. These courses are offered through the Medical Laboratory Technician Program.
Certification:
Students who successfully complete PHLB-1110 , PHLB-1110L and PHLB-1112 will be eligible to take the national certification examination.
Location:
PHLB-1110 and portions of PHLB-1112 are taught at San Juan College main campus. Practicum assignments in PHLB-1112 require travel to locations off campus to clinical affiliates throughout the Four Corners area.
Admission Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required for admission to the program.
- Students admitted must be at least 18 years of age.
- Complete a background check, drug screen, and all health requirements required by the clinical affiliates prior to start of PHLB-1112 .
The College reserves the right to limit enrollment because of space or budget restrictions, establish selective admission requirements, and give preference to residents of the Four Corners area.
