Pharmacy Technician Certificate

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Students will start and complete the process of filling a prescription and utilize inventory control, billing and reimbursement systems. 
  2. Students will effectively communicate using proper medical and pharmaceutical terminology. 
  3. Students will identify the top 200 drug list published by the FDA. 
  4. Students will exhibit the needed skills, knowledge and professionalism to become employed in a facility
  5. Students will study for and sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. 

The Pharmacy Technician Certificate program is designed to prepare students for careers as pharmacy technicians in hospitals, retail pharmacies, and other pharmacy-related agencies. Students receive classroom, laboratory and practical experience covering all aspects of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. Students will prepare and sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). The New Mexico State Board of Pharmacy requires certification for state licensure. All required courses - prerequisites and core courses - must be completed with a C or better.

  • The projected growth for pharmacy technician is 32% from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average (14%) for all occupations. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)
  • The number of jobs in the U.S. in 2010 was 334,400
  • Pharmacy technicians are required to be state licensed by the Boards and Commissions of the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department.

 

Career and Educational Advancement Opportunities:

Pharmacy technician programs in New Mexico have a high placement rate for graduates. Jobs are available in hospitals, retail, and specialty pharmacies.

 

Note: This program is not eligible for Federal Financial Aid funding.
