Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to comprehend, apply, analyze, and evaluate information relevant to their role as an entry-level EMT (Cognitive).
- Demonstrate technical proficiency in all skills necessary to fulfill the role as an entry-level EMT (Psychomotor).
- Demonstrate personal behaviors consistent with professional and employer expectations for an entry-level EMT (Affective).
The Emergency Medical Technician (formerly EMT-Basic) certificate program offers the entry-level course for pursuing a career in EMS. Entry-level students must complete the EMT certificate program in order to gain EMS licensure in the state of New Mexico. The course is designed to meet the US DOT National Standard Curriculum for EMT-Basic, the EMS Education Standards for Emergency Medical Technician, and the NM EMS training standards. EMT licensure/certification is a prerequisite for higher level EMS programs.
Prerequisites: Placement through or completion of RDNG 099 ; instructor/coordinator approval; Entry assessment completion, through Platinum Education, $5.00 fee to student; Additional requirements possible as established by clinical and/or field sites.
