Esthetician Certificate

The Esthetician program is designed to meet the standards established by the New Mexico State board of Barbers and Cosmetologists. Covers the theory and lab activities performed in the salon business and retail sales as they relate to esthetics. Meets the minimum 600 clock hours required by the Barbers and Cosmetology State Board. Consists of esthetic skin care, facials, massage manipulations, and the enhancing and caring of the skin. Explains the importance of anatomy and physiology as they relate to health and skin care. Also, provides the proper use of implements, supplies and materials and explores how sanitation and infection control is necessary to prevent and reduce diseases that may be founded in the esthetic industry and reviews the regulations, laws, and rules Required by the State board.

After successfully completing the program, students are qualified to take the New Mexico Board test for licensure. Licensing and certification for immediate employment in the field are obtained by passing this exam.

Students entering this program are required to complete appropriate basic skills classes as determined by the scores on the College's entrance exam. This is a selective program that admits students in the fall and spring semester.

Note: A student must earn a grade of C or higher in all courses required for the program to receive a certificate.
