Surgical Technology, A.A.S.

This program is designed to instruct students in the tasks and responsibilities of a surgical technologist in the operating room.  Areas of study will include, but are not limited to, aseptic technique, positioning of patients, preparation of instrumentation, pulling of case carts, setting up rooms, and assisting surgeons.  By the end of the degree studies, the student will be able to independently prepare for a procedure and assist the surgeon in a great patient care outcome. 

Students who successfully complete the courses will be eligible to take the national certification examination of the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Note:  Student must earn a grade of ‘C’ or higher in all courses to obtain a Surgical Technology A.A.S. degree.

SJC First Year Experience Requirement: 3 Credits


General Education Requirements: 16-17 Credits


Program Requirements: 6 Credits


Program Requirements must be completed prior to admission to the program.

TOTAL DEGREE REQUIREMENTS: 60-64 Credits

Cohort only by selection. Students who for any reason are unable to follow the suggested course sequence should contact an academic advisor for help with adjustments.
