HITP-1150 Legal and Ethical Issues in HITP 3

This course introduces the legal, regulatory, and ethical issues that affect health information. Topics include professional liability, informed consent, patient rights, legal documents, and workplace regulations. Special emphasis is placed on privacy and security requirements, release of information, HIPAA, and other federal and state compliance regulations. Students also study ethical principles that guide the management and protection of health information.
