HITP-1220 Intro to Health Information Technology 3


This course provides an overview of the core principles and practices in health information management. Topics include healthcare delivery systems, health record content and structure, healthcare data and documentation standards, legal and ethical responsibilities, classification and coding systems, and health information technologies. Emphasis is placed on the role of health information professionals in ensuring data quality, confidentiality, and compliance within healthcare organizations. Students will also gain hands-on experience using electronic health records to support health information tasks.

Prerequisites: Admission into either the Health Information Technology Program or the Medical Coder/Biller Program.
