MUSC-2150 G-American Popular Music History 3

The music of America is a multi-cultural blend whose roots are found in Africa, on Broadway, in the Caribbean and South America, at the Grand Ole Opry, and in Native American and Pacific American music. By examining those roots we trace the development of jazz, rhythm and blues, folk, and rock and its various descendants. Listening includes in-class and web-based musical examples for outside-of-class listening. Student presentations on areas of interest serve as capstone projects.
