MAST-125 Medical Assistant Externship I 4 This course is designed to provide students experience and training in order for attainment of an entry level medical assisting position. Externship will take place in a medical office, hospital, nursing home, or surgical center. Placement in an ambulatory health care setting is required. In an actual work situation, students will perform both clinical and administrative competencies. Clinical competencies include practicing sterlization and sanitation techniques, medical documentation, specimen collection, notifying patients of lab and imaging results, patient instruction, physician assistance with procedures and tests, and patient care. Administrative competencies include answering phones, scheduling and management of appointments, filing, bookkeeping, payment collection, patient check-in and check-out and professional communication skills. Prerequisites: MAST-120 Offered: On Demand Faculty Permission Required
