SURG-119 Central Sterile Service 4 Student will learn tasks and responsibilities of the Central Service Technician and the practice of Sterile Processing. They will learn the process of microorganisms, regulations and standards, infection control, asepsis, water testing, soiled item transportation, decontamination, sterilization, care of all surgical instruments, packaging processes, “flash sterilization”, different types of sterilization methods. When students finish this course they will be able to perform all types of sterilization of surgical instrumentation & perform all duties that are required of the Central Service Technician. Upon completion of course and 400 hours of clinical rotation (not available through San Juan College), the student will be able to sit for certification exam offered through IAHCSMM.
